Beatles for beginners!

The song "Hello, Goodbye", by The Beatles is a great song to use in the first day of class for beginners. It's short, simple, and creates a good atmosphere for students.
A suugestion to work with this song is taken from the site tuneintoenglish.com:

  • Activity type: gap fill, opposites.
  • Time: 10 minutes.
1) Write the following words on the board:
Yes  - Stop - goodbye - high - I don't know

2) Students write the opposites alone or in pairs before listening to the song. Point out that the "opposite" for I don't know is the question that provokes the answer.

3) Play the song. Students listen for the opposites, correcting as necessary, and numbering them in the order they appear.

4) Feedback on opposites.

5) Give each student a copy of the worksheet. Play the song. Students complete the text.

6) Allow them to check their answers with other students, correct, and sing together.

Introducing myself and the purpose ou this blog

My name is Juliana and I've been teaching English since after my graduation in 2005, from UnB, Universidade de Brasília. Currently, I'm an English teacher at CILT, Centro Interescolar de Línguas de Taguatinga, in Brasília, capital of Brazil . Teaching English through songs is a very  efficient learning strategy once students can retain information with great ease and with more success.
